Mission Statement
The mission of the School of Optometry is to protect, advance and promote the vision, eye care and health of people world wide by:
Preparing individuals for careers in optometry, the ophthalmic industry and vision science
Advancing knowledge through teaching, research and service.
This will be accomplished through the Doctor of Optometry, Optician/Technician, Residency and Graduate programs.
Vision Statement
Our vision is to achieve an integrated vision science and patient care academic program that is a leader in translating discovery to patient care through teaching, research, and service. This vision reinforces the Indiana University School of Optometry commitment to advancing and communicating knowledge of Optometry and vision science for the benefit of the state, the nation, and the world.

Membership & Accreditation
The School of Optometry is accredited by:
  The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO)
  The Accreditation Council on Optometric Education
  The American Optometric Association, the official optometric agency recognized by the National Commission on Accrediting
  The Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry
Optometry students and graduates are eligible to take the annual examinations of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
The Optician/Technician Program is accredited by:
  The Accreditation Council on Optometric Education
  The Commission on Opticianry Accreditation
Graduates are eligible to take a certification examination through the American Optometric Association Commission on Paraoptometric Certification. They may also may become certified by the American Board of Opticianry.
