Dr. Todd Peabody received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Indiana University in 1999 and his Optometry Doctorate from IU in 2003. In May 1999, he was one of only four recipients nationwide to be awarded the United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program scholarship which consisted of a four-year comprehensive scholarship to attend Indiana University School of Optometry in return for a four-year commitment to the United States Navy after graduation. Upon graduation from the IU School of Optometry, Dr. Peabody was assigned to Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes (NHCGL), Illinois, as a staff optometrist. At NHCGL, he served as Extern Director for three optometry clinics and was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at both the Illinois College of Optometry and Southern College of Optometry. In 2005, he was nominated to be the Navy Extern Director of the Year. During Dr. Peabody's tenure in the Navy, he was handpicked by leaders in Navy Optometry to serve as the sole Coalition Optometrist in Kuwait in support of the Global War on Terrorism. From August 2006 through February 2007, he was responsible for all eye care and triage for coalition troops from Kuwait, parts of Afghanistan, southern Iraq, and the Persian Gulf.
Dr. Peabody joined the faculty of Indiana University School of Optometry in July 2007 as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University School of Optometry. He teaches clinically in primary care and contact lens specialty clinics emphasizing medical optometry. He also teaches didactically in a pre-clinic case analysis and professional communication course and guest lectures in IUSO's business aspects of optometry course. In addition to his appointment in the optometry school, he is a faculty member in IU African Studies Program with emphasis in Ghana. Dr. Peabody has given continuing education lectures locally and nationally. In addition, he has presented over a dozen case reports at national optometry meetings.
Dr. Peabody is a Remote Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO). By serving as an Examiner, he participates in the important assessment process that is required for professional licensure. He is also a Consultant for the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE). In his role as an ACOE Consultant, he serves as an evaluator with expertise in optometric education and practice by visiting optometric residency programs to assess their compliance with ACOE's standards. Dr. Peabody is Board Certified in Medical Optometry by American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry and has earned Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. He is an active member of the Indiana Optometric Association (IOA) and American Optometric Association (AOA), and American Academy of Optometry (AAO).
