Non-infectious AIDS-related ocular complications

Complications

  • Cotton wool spots (67%)
  • Flame, white-centered, or dot-blot retinal hemorrhages (12-40%); also, peripheral retinal hemorrhages
  • Microvascular abnormalities
  • Vascular occlusions

Management

Inform physician and monitor patient every 2 to 3 months.

If cotton wool spot found in young patient, ask about risk factors for HIV infection.
