Pfizer's Xalatan Sterile Ophthalmic Solution (latanoprost ophthalmic solution) is a prescription medicine used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. It is supplied as a sterile, isotonic, buffered aqueous solution of latanoprost (a prostaglandin analogue).

Be aware that Xalatan has been associated with herpetic lesions.

Possible side effects of Xalatan:

Darkening of iris color Increased eyelid pigmentation Hypertrichosis (increase in vellus hair--the non-pigmented, fine, "peach fuzz" hair covering the body); eyelash thickening Conjunctival hyperemia Allergy Cystoid macular edema (speculative)

Anterior uveitis Punctuate corneal erosions Corneal pseudodendrites, herpes keratitis, herpes dermatitis Systemic hypertension? Migraine headaches? Vague flu-like symptoms and joint pain?

Use Xalatan with caution in patients with:

A history of uveitis Aphakia YAG capsulotomy An anterior IOL History of Herpes simplex
