The Optometry Big 10
Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How Much . . . 10 Oral Medications for the Optometrist

Author: Jane Ann Grogg, OD
CE credit: 1 hour
Cost: $25
COPE Expiration: 8/1/2011

Dr. Grogg discusses the top 10 medicines she goes to on a regular basis to treat many of the conditions she sees. Dr. Grogg has been triaging red eyes at the IU Health Center since 1996. Her clinical experience has been enhanced by working closely with physicians and nurse practitioners. Although her approach to treatment may be considered aggressive by some, she has had very good luck in treating patients and resolving their conditions.

When compiling her "Optometry Big 10" list, Dr. Grogg considered:
  1. Efficacy. The drug has to work.
  2. Compliance. Better compliance is usually obtained from a shorter course, less frequent dosing, and quick results.
  3. Few or well-known side effects. Discussing common side effects can head off that phone call later.
  4. Cost. Not everyone has a health care plan, and even those who do may be concerned about out-of-pocket expense.
Learn the who, what, where, when, why, and how much associated with each of the top drugs Dr. Grogg keeps in her "little black bag."
