Cholesterol Control

Cardiovascular problems are always a concern with diabetic patients. In this case the patient was recently put on Vytorin (a combination of ezetimibe-Zetia and simvastatin-Zocor) to lower her cholesterol even though her HDL’s were quite high. The Vytorin is used to lower the LDL’s and increase the HDL’s by blocking the absorption and blocking the production of cholesterol.

Ezetimibe blocks absorption of cholesterol from the intestine and simvastatin blocks the enzyme in the liver that produces cholesterol.

More information about Vitorin.
