Eale's Disease

Eale's Disease is an idiopathic vasculopathy affecting healthy, young adults. Possible immune reaction to exogenous agent. Although it is very uncommon in North America, it is the cause of significant visual loss in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Eale's Disease usually strikes patients in their 20s or 30s; greater occurrence in males than females. It may be associated with TB protein.

Most prominent findings are retinal vascular sheathing and exudative sheathing in the periphery.

Other findings include CME, vitreal cells, anterior chamber cells/flare, and peripheral retinal non-perfusion. Neovascularization of the retina, disc, and iris are possible.

Treatment consists of PRP to peripheral ischemic retina.
