Dr. Rainey with VT patient Vision therapy (VT) is a personal treatment program designed to improve various visual problems through eye exercises. The goal of vision therapy is to teach or reinforce visual skills under controlled conditions. The exercises strengthen visual skills in an effort to improve vision and to relieve symptoms.

Visual problems commonly treated with vision therapy include:

  • Eye focusing (accommodative) problems
  • Binocular (two-eyed) vision problems and eye movement or tracking problems
  • Strabismus (turned eye) and amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Suppression (a condition in which both eyes are open but the brain only uses one eye, causing a loss in depth perception)

Therapy is also provided to patients who:

  • Have visual information processing problems that may affect learning and school performance
  • Wish to improve their binocular vision to perform more successfully in sports
  • Have visual and/or visual information processing problems due to a head injury
