Diagnosing Glaucoma Glaucoma is not caused by one mechanism. There are many different theories about why a person develops glaucoma. Glaucoma can be caused by having too much aqueous production by the eye, blocked drainage from the eye, physical damage to the drainage structures, or decreased blood flow to the optic nerve. Each type of glaucoma has specific symptoms and findings that lead to its diagnosis. Your eye care specialist must perform a series of clinical tests essential in determining whether you have glaucoma. The procedures listed below are performed on a regular basis to determine whether there has been any progression of the disease. To learn more about each procedure, select it from the list.
