Gonioscopy
Gonioscopy is an essential test in determining the type of glaucoma a patient may have. It is a very quick test which takes only a few minutes to perform on both eyes. Gonioscopy is performed by numbing the eye and placing a lens on the front surface.
The lens allows us, with the use of mirrors, to look at and evaluate the entire 360 degrees of the drainage angle around the eye. A gonioscopy is crucial in determining whether the drainage angle is open or closed. Additionally, gonioscopy helps us see whether there is any pigment or material clogging the drainage angle. On the right is a gonioscopy picture of the drainage angle.
