Aniridic Glaucoma Aniridia is a congenital abnormality where a partial or total absence of the iris of the eye occurs. It is believed to be a rare, inherited disease with its gene located on Chromosome Number 11. Glaucoma usually develops in childhood or adolescence due to abnormalities in the iris and drainage angle. Other abnormalities associated with aniridia are corneal vascularization, cataracts, nystagmus, and an underdeveloped macula. This type of glaucoma is hard to treat both medically and surgically, and therefore, early diagnosis of glaucoma is essential in the management of an aniridic patient.
