Eye Care Professionals
Why should you donate your services to ECCO?
Benefits of participating with the Eye Care Community Outreach (ECCO) program:

  • We regulate. You may already accept some charity patients, but they may be sporadic, unregulated and go unrecognized in the community. ECCO helps you to regulate and get recognition for it.
  • We keep track. At the end of each calendar year, ECCO will calculate the total dollar amount of charity care you have donated and mail you a service invoice to use in claiming tax deductions.
  • You decide your limits. You will not receive more patients than you agreed to see on your enrollment form. Charity care will be spread out among all of the ECCO participating eye doctors.
  • We Screen. ECCO screens every patient that we refer to you, requiring proof of income and (lack of) insurance coverage to ensure your resources are reaching he intended population.
  • Future Patients. Some patients who contact us have insurance and ask us to recommend an eye doctor for them. We refer these patients to whichever ECCO doctor is closest to their residence. In addition, some of your ECCO patients will eventually have insurance and will return to you for eye care.
  • Valuable Service. You will be providing a valuable service to medically underserved individuals and greatly improving the access to vision services and the overall visual health to make Central Indiana a leader in vision health.

For further information regarding treating the uninsured, please visit the Web page: www.physicianspractice.com. Click on October 2004 issue for the article "Treating the Uninsured?" by Bob Keaveney.

The Eye Care Community Outreach (ECCO) program invites you to attend its Eye to Eye Educational Series. The programs--supported by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield--are designed to strengthen your ability to make vision health a priority in the community you serve as well as build, strengthen, and sustain partnerships with other community agencies.

Each program will last approximately 1.5 hours, and lunch will be served. Please contact Dewana Allen, Program Manager, at (317) 321-1413 to register. Space is limited! Watch our calendar for program information and dates.
