Dr. Irvin M. Borish is one of the optometric community’s most celebrated citizens, renowned for distinguished contributions in every facet of the profession:  educator at every school of optometry, author, worldwide lecturer, inventor, and practitioner.  Part of the founding committee of the Indiana University School of Optometry, he became a faculty member and director of patient care and clinical courses until his retirement and appointment as professor emeritus.  Dr. Borish has dedicated his life to establishing optometry as an academic discipline that creates new knowledge via research.  The Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research was created through his generous support and leadership.  We honor Dr. Borish for his influence on the School of Optometry and his transforming work that propelled it into the premier institution of higher learning for ophthalmic education and research through its unique patient-based research.
