NRHA Announces the 2008 Class for the Rural Health Fellows Program
On December 11, 2007, the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) announced the final selections for the 2008 Rural Health Fellows Program. After the completion of a competitive review process, 12 fellows were selected to participate in this year-long, intensive program aimed at developing leaders who can articulate a clear and compelling vision for rural America.
Among the selected 12 fellows is IU School of Optometry Community Outreach Director, Dr. Jeffrey D. Perotti. In addition to coordinating with the Rural Health Program throughout southern Indiana, Dr. Perotti works with urban outreach in several community health clinics and prisons in Indianapolis via the school's Indianapolis Eye Care Center and Eye Care Community Outreach (ECCO) program. According to Dr. Gerald Lowther, IU School of Optometry Dean, Dr. Perotti is the first optometrist to be selected for this prestigious program.
"We are very pleased to announce this new class of fellows as this program enters its second year. Once again, this class represents various levels of rural healthcare expertise. With the successes achieved by the 2007 class, we look forward to continuing the tradition of building rural healthcare leaders through this valuable program," said Alan Morgan, NRHA CEO.
Fellows will gain valuable insights and build critical skills in three primary domains:
- Personal, team, and organizational leadership;
- Health policy analysis and advocacy;
- National Rural Health Association governance and structure.
