Dr. Brooks is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Director of the School of Optometry's Optician/Technician Program. Before coming to Indiana University, Dr. Brooks practiced optometry in southern Indiana. He then spent two years as Guest Lecturer at the Höheren Fachschule für Augenoptik in Cologne, Germany, where he taught refraction and contact lenses.

Dr. Brooks teaches in the areas of geometric and ophthalmic optics. He is probably best known for his book, System for Ophthalmic Dispensing, which is co-authored with Dr. Irvin Borish. Dr. Brooks has written other books, including Essentials of Ophthalmic Lens Finishing and Understanding Lens Surfacing. He is Founder and President of FCO International (the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists). FCO currently has student chapters at all of the US schools and colleges of optometry.
