Over the past decade quite a large body of evidence has accumulated which shows that peripheral resolution is sampling limited for high-contrast targets which are reasonably well-focused on the retina. This slide lists the main categories of evidence. I've already mentioned the top two, and now I'd like to mention briefly the others before addressing some practical issues relating to the clinical application of these ideas.
