Many retinal diseases are characterized by the functional loss or death of neurons in the photoreceptor mosaic or the ganglion cell array.

Consequently, a non-invasive technique for detecting and monitoring the change in sampling density of these arrays of retinal neurons would seem to have great potential for Optometry.

So what will it take to bring the concept of sampling-limited acuity into the clinic? The answer, I think, is that we need to be able to provide satisfactory answers to the following questions.
