Fortunately, Yizhong Wang from my laboratory has found that resolution acuity is extremely robust against refractive blur. Although detection acuity varies strongly with defocus, resolution acuity is independent of defocus over a range of several diopters. This means that it is only necessary to get the refractive error roughly correct. Fortunately there is a built in check to see if close enough is good enough. So long as detection acuity exceeds resolution acuity, aliasing is indicated and we conclude that resolution remains sampling limited.
