Notes:
So here is our suggestion. We propose that a VSIA taskforce be
formed and charged with developing consensus recommendations on the
following issues.
- Preferred describing functions and conventions for specifying
the wavefront aberration function and the pupil transmission (or
apodization) function, which together describe the eye's pupil
function.
- Reliable algorithms for converting describing functions from
all commonly used systems to the preferred functions, and
visa-versa.
- Appropriate choice of reference axis for reporting pupil
functions of eyes.
- Standard data sets suitable for testing computer algorithms
designed to compute coefficients of the pupil aberration function
and the pupil transmission function and related metrics of image
quality.
- Design specifications for the construction of physical model
eyes suitable for testing experimental methodologies for measuring
the eye's pupil function.
- A procedure by which the vision community can create a "gold
standard" model eye suitable for calibration of experimental
systems.
- A procedure for periodic review and refinement of the
taskforce's recommendations.
