To meet this charge, the following strategy is proposed for the taskforce.

• Form an initial working group at the 1999 VSIA meeting.
• Create initial responses to each charge listed above at the 1999 VSIA meeting.
• Divide into smaller working groups to fill in the necessary details to the initial response by May 1, 1999, in time for informal discussions at ARVO.
• Seek the advice of the OSA community at large to help ensure that the recommendations developed for visual optics are consistent with currently accepted practice in other branches of optical science.
• Sponsor a project to cycle a physical model eye to all interested laboratories for measurement of its aberrations.
• Report calibration results for the model eye at VSIA 2000 at Santa Fe in Feb. 2000 in the proposed standard format.
• Identify shortcomings, form proposed solutions and finalize recommendations in time for the VSIA-2000 meeting.
