Vision Science (MS, PhD) Degree Program

Admission Requirements

The MS and PhD programs are two separate and independent programs. The MS program has a goal of supplementing clinical training with basic and or clinical research (some of the MS students are in a combined OD/MS program). The PhD program has broader goals, and attracts students from a variety of backgrounds (e.g., optics, biology, medicine, and optometry). Financial assistance is typically provided only to the PhD students.

The degree requirements for admission are flexible in order to accommodate students who come to vision science from a variety of backgrounds. We are seeking students who have excelled in either a bachelor's degree in science or in an appropriate post-graduate degree (e.g., MS, OD, MD). The applicant's coursework should be in a field appropriate to the area of vision science in which the student wishes to pursue research (e.g., optics, cell biology, optometry).
