Additional Information
The Danville VAMC optometry clinic has over 160 patient visits per week. Many of the patients have ocular manifestations of systemic disease. The optometry clinic has 5 complete lanes, digital-telemedicine anterior and posterior cameras, new autorefractor/keratometer and visual field, A and B ultrasound equipment, as well as in-house lab, CT scan, carotid doppler, and surgical/medical support staff. The Danville VA ophthalmology in-house services include cataract surgery.
The optometry resident has been an integral part of the Danville VAMC multidisciplinary health care team since its inception in 1986. The resident is expected to manage his/her own patients, supervise optometry interns, and give continuing education lectures. Attendance at Indianapolis VAMC retinal clinics enables the resident high volume retinal pathology experience. The resident works closely with the leader of the Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST)--a program of comprehensive services for eligible, blinded veterans.
