The IU School of Optometry Bike Club welcomes bike enthusiasts to join us. We ride for fun and, at three events per year, to raise funds for charity & talk up the optometry school. We also have weekly rides in and around Bloomington. Optometry and Optician/Technician students as well as faculty and staff are welcome to join. You will need a serviceable bicycle for this club, but you do not need to be an experienced cyclist.
We had a blast in May riding in the 60K Coach Hep Challenge (a charity to fund research into the type of brain cancer that killed Indiana University’s beloved football coach). In mid-summer we raised money for the American Diabetes Association’s ‘Tour de Cure’ in Indianapolis. In October we took in the fall foliage while touring Southern Indiana’s scenic back roads on the Hilly Hundred bike tour, which is America’s longest running annual bike ride. This local tour benefits nearby charities and has been called the “Best Overall Ride” by Bicycling Magazine.
If you’d like to join us for a ride, or just want further information, please contact Tim Hobbs (class of 2011) at timhobbs@indiana.edu, Jeff Perotti (clinical faculty) at jperotti@indiana.edu or Nick Port (research faculty) at nport@indiana.edu to be included on our mailing list.
