The National Optometric Student Association is the student branch of the National Optometric Association (NOA). The NOA was formed in 1969 and is composed of optometrists from various ethnic backgrounds. The primary objective of NOA members is to provide quality vision/health care. They also work with the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the schools and colleges of optometry to increase minority enrollment.
Dr. Edwin C. Marshall (IU School of Optometry Associate Dean for Academic Affairs) was NOA president when NOSA was established. IUNOSA exists to support and promote the advancement of minority students as they bridge the gap between undergraduate education and professional school.
Membership is open to all students enrolled in the IU School of Optometry. IUNOSA members often hold joint membership with many other optometric organizations (e.g., IUOSA, VOSH, or AOA PAC) to further the advancements of the optometric profession. Every student is welcome and encouraged to participate in IUNOSA and its projects.
